Why are my Thursdays always nuts? Once again, I’m lucky to be able to live-blog the show after Rosh Hashanah in Connecticut and the NFL kick-off game between the Saints and Vikings. Oh yeah, it’s halftime right now. How convenient. I say this every week, but I’m going to go ahead and skip any pleasantries. And wish you all a happy and healthy new year.

Jersey Shore is back, bitches!

But before we start, if you missed any of my previous Jersey Shore Season 2 Live Blogs, no problem. They’re all right here. Now that we’ve gotten those formalities out of the way, let’s get to this week’s Episode 7 live blog. As I always say, god help me. God help us all. Next week I get to atone for my sins, so this is good timing.

Previously on Jersey Shore: Vinny has a huge pickle; Sammi cried; blah blah blah. CATFIGHT.

Vinny doesn’t seem to like Angelina very much. Which is why it’s going to be even more shocking when they hook up. Oh sorry, forgot to say *SPOILER ALERT*

Also the name of this episode is “Sleeping With the Enemy.” And I don’t see Julia Roberts anywhere. Just sayin’.

I will say this: it’s the most balls Sammi has shown in a long time.

Sammi looks possessed, drunk and basically just batsh*t crazy right now. I like it.

Snooki doesn’t seem to understand that the only way to look out for Sammi was to actually tell her about Ronnie.

Oh right I completely forgot about the Situation’s sister. So of course she’s chiming in on the situation.

And it’s time to throw things again!

How did that platter not shatter? I’d like to find out who makes that platter. That is one strong platter.

And Sammi threw something at Jenni’s head. Ok then.

This is just pathetic. No, not that I’m watching this. But yeah, sort of.

Shortly after arriving in Minneapolis on Friday afternoon, I discovered that it was going to be much colder than forecast and I was hopelessly ill-prepared for the weather. Since I was going to the game that night at outdoor Target Field (more on that later), I needed a fleece. Where to go in Minneapolis in such a time of need? Target, of course.

1962 Joe Mauer Statue at Target Downtown Minneapolis

As I approached the flagship downtown Minneapolis Target store (conveniently located just around the corner from my hotel), I saw a statue in front. A statue of a baseball player. A statue of a catcher. A catcher with sideburns. Who could it be? Who else? Joe Mauer.

I naturally had to find out more about this Joe Mauer statue and did a little research (what did we do without the internet?). Here’s what I found out. In honor of the Minnesota Twins’ 50th Anniversary, life-sized statues of 2009 American League MVP and Twin for Life Joe Mauer will be stationed all around downtown Minneapolis.

Each statue represents a different season in the Twins’ history. The statues contain photos, stats, Twins awards and other fun information about the year it represents. Mauer’s glove also shows which Twins (if any) won a Gold Glove award that season.

In addition to three Twins games at Target Field and a day at the Minnesota State Fair, I embarked on a weekend long project I called Joe Mauer Statue Spotting. I was saddened to learn that the official name of the endeavor is Twins Around Town. The statues will eventually be auctioned off for charity.

There may be as many as 50 statues (depending on whether sponsors can be secured). For now, there are 14 and I found them all. Special thanks to my friends Sarah (Oh It’s Those Girls) and Stasia for aiding and abetting my obsession.

Here’s a slideshow of the photos of all the Joe Mauer Statues/Twins Around Town. You’ll see that I spent more time photographing certain ones than others. Some were taken at night; some during the day. Overall, they are pretty cool. Although a few of them do look a little bit creepy.

Here’s a list of the Twins Around Town and some information about the Joe Mauer Statues and their respective sponsors:

• 1961: Sponsored by Mortenson Construction located at Nicollet Mall and 4th Street. 1961 was the Twins’ first season in Minneapolis.
• 1962: Sponsored by Target. Located at the Downtown Target Store, Nicollet Mall and 9th Street. Target’s first store opened in Roseville, MN in 1962.
• 1963: Sponsored by Macy’s located at the Downtown Macy’s Store, Nicollet Mall and 8th Street. Macy’s is formerly a Dayton’s Department Store, and a new Dayton’s opened in downtown St. Paul in 1963.
• 1987: Sponsored by Star Tribune located at Target Center, First Avenue and 6th Street. This one’s easy: the Twins won the World Series.
• 1992: Sponsored by HealthPartners. 1992 was the year that HealthPartners was formed (as a result of a merger).
• 2000: Sponsored at Nicollet Mall and 5th Street. Sponsored by Periscope, the Twins advertising agency of record, this statue celebrates 40 years of Twins baseball.
• 2002: Sponsored by Minneapolis Convention Center/Meet Minneapolis located at the main entrance of the Convention Center. This statue represents the year the Twins emerged as contenders in the American League Central Division, winning its first of many division titles.
• 2004: Sponsored by Brookfield Properties located at City Center, Nicollet Mall and 7th Street. Again, no idea about the relationship between Brookfield and 2004 (or even what Brookfield is).
• 2005: Sponsored by FMP Brands. This statue was the most blatantly commercial of all of them. Also Mauer looks like the Terminator.
• 2006: Sponsored by Best Buy located at Gate 6 Target Field. You knew Best Buy had to sponsor at least one of these, right? Best Buy celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2006.
• 2007: Sponsored by U.S. Bank located at Nicollet Mall between 8th and 9th Streets.
• 2008: Sponsored by Land O’Lakes located at Peavey Plaza, Nicollet Mall and 11th Street.
• 2009: Sponsored by Starkey Sports Consulting located at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis, 35 7th Street South
• 2010: Sponsored by the Twins, located outside Target Field at Gate 34. 2010 is of course the year the Twins moved into brand new Target Field.
